The adage "there's light at the end of the tunnel" is one that brings about two emotions in my opinion: one is that it gives hope of a better future, and the other seems as though someone intentionally wants to make things hard for the individual and to make that possible, placed the opportunity (light) at the end of the tunnel.
Yeah, I know it's just an adage that offers hope, but when you take a good amount of time to observe the situations of things around the world, then you'll realise it seems as though there are some forces who, rather than making opportunity open to many on-time, instead situate it into the later part of one or two tasks before being able to get access to such and that kind of move is in line with the adage I talked about earlier.
I am not anti-effort, nor do I disregard the importance of investing some amount of effort to get what ever we desire, but when this task becomes too ambiguous, I think it isn't really worth it, especially when others around the higher power can easily attain the alleged finish line with little or no effort.
It's very disheartening, and I guess that made me think far enough to the point of this adage, and I began to ask some questions like, "Who took the light to the end of the tunnel?" "How long is the tunnel?" "And what if I get to the end of the tunnel and there is no sign of any light whatsoever?" Who do I hold responsible? What will compensate my efforts? Or will I just have to look for another tunnel and begin a fresh ultimate search for a supposed light?
The times are hard, and things aren't moving as smoothly as I would have liked them to, but then. We'll keep trying; I hope we don't break down due to stress or become too old before we get hold of this alleged light that's at the end of the tunnel.
This write-up was written due to the just-concluded presidential election results in my country, Nigeria. The alleged newly appointed president is a man who has been in power and politics even before I was born. As children, we were told that we were the leaders of tomorrow. If we're the leaders of tomorrow, how come the man who was in power before I was born is still the one being appointed as president now that I'm grown up?
They said we're the leaders of tomorrow, but when is that tomorrow? And where are we going to get to the end of this tunnel to grab the light that'll pave the way for the people and the masses? I hope this won't take much longer because all signals point towards another 8 years of oppression of the masses by this new regime.
