Firstly the importance of farming as a whole(be it livestock or crop farming) to humanity can never be overemphasized. It as greatly improve our ecosystem, way of live and state of health(based on the nutrients we derived from them.
Today I'll be sharing which I felt is more better, Though I wouldn't totally place one above the other because they both have their importance, but my opinion could be clouded by the fact that I'm into crop farming, and deal less with livestock.
So before I share my final vindict, let look into the positive and negative impact of both to humanity and our ecosystem.
CROP FARMING VERSUS LIVESTOCKS FARMING
-
Crop farming doesn't require as much attention as livestock farming does, livestock farmers have to feed, clean and provide water and feeds for their livestock's on a daily basis, they must also vaccinate them and regularly ensure temperature and environmental stability.
-
Crop farmers however only needs to weed probably once a week and apply water and fertilizers at intervals. As a result of this, a crop farmer can attend to other duties and do other trades, while a livestocks farmers must concentrate more on his/her livestock's.
-
Livestock farmers are more at risk than crop Farmers, this is because a slight breach of the pen or poultry house might can make them wander away, or expose the animals to dangerous predators.
Crop are also victim of such, cows and other animals could wander into the farm to eat/destroy the farm products.
-
Crop Farmers spend money on equipment like harvested, tractor etc... And this can be use consistently for several years and will only require maintenance fee, unlike Livestock farmers who spent lesser money on equipment, but must regularly purchase feeds for their livestock(and the prices of this feeds increases by the day).
-
Crop Farmers are able to store their farm produce for a long time after harvest. However, livestock farmers must sell off their animals/birds as soon as they're matured or else they may die, this will be a great loss to the farmer (though some of them now Marge frozen food with their farming business, but it's worthy of note that frozen food business isn't part of farming).
-
Livestock farmers can use and consistently use the same poultry/pen house for 100 years and above, in as much that they regularly thoroughly clean it. Unlike the livestock farmers, Crop Farmers can't use the same land forever, because consistent use of land for plantation will make the land lose it nutrients, that's why we crop Farmers engage in crop rotation on the same land or engage in shifting cultivation to allow the old farmland regain it lost nutrients.
-
Livestock farmers are more at risk of contacting diseases like rebies, ebola, lasser fever And tetanus from their livestock, it is highly rare for crop farmer to contain any disease from their crops, but the most common they do contact is pseudomonad aeruginosa.
With this few points of mine, I hope I've been able to analyzed the difference's between both and am sure from these I'll agree with me if I say crop farming is way better than livestock farming.
To round it up, I feel like a murderer each time I take the life of any animals, and am sure most of us felt that way as well, this is not so when we harvest farm produces. And I believe that is why we have many animal defenders and activists agency that we do for plant.
A big thank you to #hagro community and @olaunlimited for instituting this program, and apologies stating my point to large when the requirements was just few words.
Thanks for checking out my blog post, have a blessed day ahead.
