Life is a journey, isn't that what everyone says? But if truly it is, when will we reach our destination? Do we have the capability or ability to choose when to call off the journey, or where do we even go after tiring activities and struggles that come with the world? My mind has traveled far and wide after receiving the bad news of the sudden death of my friend and housemate during my college days.
The news dug a hole in my heart, and I literally found it hard to fall asleep after reading the news. Gbenga, popularly known as Falous, was a fine young man whose life was going smoothly until death came knocking, or so I thought. Although he was two years ahead of me in college, I looked up to him for mentorship and guidance in academics because he was very intelligent.
He was so intelligent to the point where he had barely graduated when the same institution offered him the post of a junior lecturer. They even gave him the privilege to further his studies while he served as a lecturer? His life seems to follow the pattern and ambition of every graduate, which is to secure a very good job after graduating from college.
His lifestyle and luck were something I envied and wished I could attain. I mean, who wants to struggle with job hunting after college? Well, I ended up doing that for years. In a nutshell, the turnout of his life was one many of us looked up to. He worked for several years before getting married 3 years ago. Now a father and a homeowner, what else could one wish for at such a young age?
I think I heard you murmur "good health," but he wasn't a sickler, nor does he fall sick often or have any health challenges like I do, or so I thought. He seems and looks healthy, and neither was his job the type that entails loads of stress, yet he was said to die of low blood pressure, also known as hypotension.
It's saddening, and I can't help but wonder who's next and when will the end of my own road be, but regardless of when it is, I think we should make our health a priority. Not withstanding if we're healthy or not, we should always consult our doctors and examine our medical conditions in order to identify and combat whatever arises against our health.
Health, as they say, is wealth; therefore, wealth without health is a waste, because you'll end up ruining all your assets in it or even dying and living without having the privilege to enjoy the fruits of your labor. These might seem like a charge to you, but they are to me as well, because I don't take my medication seriously prior to the news yesterday.
It's my prayer that we all live long in good health and wealth, but to make that possible, we all need to do the needful. Thanks so much for your time, and have a pleasant month of March.
