Imagine a world where the veil of uncertainty surrounding our mortality is lifted and each of us knows the exact day we will die, just like we know and celebrate our birthdays. Sounds ridiculous, right? Yes, such a scenario would without a doubt change our world, lives, and society in drastic ways, but then I can't help but think out loud, What if?

What if?, the one question that's filled with uncertainty of what might have happened if only things turned out differently, came to mind tonight, and I couldn't help but put it into words: if we all knew the exact day we'd die just like we knew our birthday, what impact would that have on how we saw and treated life?
Almost everyone looks forward to their birthday and is usually excited to celebrate another milestone here on earth. While that's good, what most of us know but don't want to talk about is the awareness that celebrating a year older is also a reminder that we're closer to death than we were the previous years. While thinking about that, this thought came to mind: what if we're all aware of the day we'll die just like we know our birthday?
Death is one of the most detestable topics anyone wants to talk about, except if such a person is going through tough times and feels death is the only way out of their misery. But aside from the fact that both the rich and the poor want to live long and enjoy love to the fullest, well, who wouldn't? It's commonly said that when there is life, there is hope, so life gives us just a chance to dream, aspire, and perspire about our future.
The future being uncertain gives us the ease to dream, and that's why many of us do things differently, but in a situation where the future of when it's all going to come to an end for one is certain, I kind of see people dealing with such a situation differently, depending on how long they've left and their personalities.
After thorough thoughts on this, here is my take on what I felt would happen in such a situation.
POSITIVE ASPECTS
-
I believe such awareness will give us the zeal to dream and chase our purpose effectively, knowing fully well that time is limited. We will strive to live a fulfilled life before saying farewell to it.
-
It'll help us prioritize and value relationships, people, and our goals even more. Knowing fully well that we've got limited time will help bring awareness to the fact that we need to cherish and utilize each moment we get to spend around our loved ones.
-
Such an opportunity will also help us maximize our times and opportunities to the fullest by being more observant and the like.
NEGATIVE ASPECTS
-
One of the negative impacts this knowledge would have on us is fear and anxiety.
-
Such will also lead to psychological issues for everyone, especially when the end comes nearer. The idea of dying has a way of making one lose the ability to think straight.
-
This awareness can make some people go nuts and indulge in some inhuman act, all because they know death won't visit them anytime soon and that they still have enough time to right their wrongs before death comes knocking.
-
Such awareness would even lead to some industries, like the life insurance industry, folding up. I mean, what's the point of someone having a life insurance company when they already know when they'll die? So in a nutshell, awareness will be detrimental to such organizations.
All in all, the knowledge of finite mortality can go both ways and have both aspects of impact on individuals, but it's now left for our personalities individually to do things right while there is still time.
Thanks so much for your time, have a wonderful week ahead, I look forward to your thoughts in the comment section.
