The childhood phrase is one of the most exciting moments of our lives, filled with so many memories that bring smiles to our faces each time we reminisce on them. One such memory is of the lies we were told by those around us. Although lies aren't a good thing, one of the beauties of those stages is the lies, which sometimes are aimed to get us scared of indulging in something and sometimes they're just to make fun of us, the young ones.
The lies are so enormous to the point where I can literally go all day telling you about different avenues and scenes of lies I was told during my childhood, one of which was one I was told by a boy who was about 5 years older than I was. I can remember him once lying to me about how palm trees have the supernatural power to multiply any amount of money we keep under them. I did try it, and the following day I met double of what I kept under them, and this made me rush down to get as much money as possible, which would be doubled.
Getting to the house, I can remember taking all of my hidden money, and some of that of my guidance I saw with the hope that once it was doubled again, I'd return their money before they noticed it. Unfortunately for me, after keeping the huge amount of money under the palm tree this second time, I didn't see the money I kept there, not to talk of double. I was devastated and cried to the boy who told me about the trick, but all he said was that maybe I didn't keep it in the right way I ought to, and then he went on to say that at least I did get double the first time I tried, so I shouldn't doubt him.
Getting home, my guidance found out about the missing money, and I was flogged for being the one who took it, even though I refused to tell them what I used the money for despite how much I was punished. But growing up, I got to realize it was all a lie, and the first time I got a double of what I kept under the tree, it could have just been the boy doubling my money with the hope of gaining my trust. I must confess I was fooled by it, but now I can't help but laugh at myself for such a silly trick.
The above-stated lies are just one of the many lies I was told during my childhood days; I also listed some of the other ones that come to mind below;
-
Don't cross a pregnant woman: One of the most common lies we were told during childhood is to never walk over a pregnant woman leg and that the results is that such a child in the pregnant woman will look like you if you ever cross a pregnant woman's leg, this is just a lie then but Many of us believe it and usually try to shy away from doing such in other not to have trouble with the husband of the woman, funny how we think right, I mean how can a child look like you by just walking over a pregnant woman leg, I guess such lies were told so we can caution ourselves when around pregnant women.

Go and collect JOKO PEPE: The word joko Pepe in Yoruba means still down for a long period of time, but when this elderly ones want to pronounce such , they pronounce it in a way where we won't understand that's what they are saying, and when an elder tells you to go and collect JOKO PEPE for him or her from another elder, it simply means they want to discharge you, to make sure you still down calmly and not disturb, and by the time you get to the person you're sent to collect such from, he or she will keep telling you to wait that they are Searching for the items you asked for, if you get tired of waiting and wanted to go, they'll simply tell you to wait a little longer that they've almost seen it, this is a funny lie and I've also use the same for younger ones.
