Despite the fact that our instinct used to be right sometimes when we judge people by their looks or appearance, I still believe everyone deserves a chance to know what they're capable of before we just assume based on their look. One downside of this is that once we have such a feeling or judgement within us, it usually automatically becomes a yardstick for how we treat people until they prove us wrong or affirm our instinct.
The act of judging a book by its cover, or better yet, assuming within our hearts about someone based on their look or appearance isn't usually a good idea, but that doesn't disregard the fact that it can go a long way in helping us in some cases because we might end up being right, even though we can as well be wrong. In this article, I'd love to share my personal experience on how I've defined someone based on their appearance in the past.

I WAS DUMBFOUNDED
A few years ago, during my undergraduate days at the university, I once came in contact with some guys who stopped me and my friends on our way home. One of them came over and said he would love to join our reading group, which usually meets in the evening at one of my friends' house. We almost laughed at the offer, but we composed ourselves and said it's fine and he can come over.
Am sure you'll be wondering why is offer was funny to us. The thing is that he's someone who usually dresses like a rascal, he also smokes and walks with an unserious set of students who are renounced bad boys of the school, so with all this, I and my friends already pictured him within our minds as someone who can never be serious or know much academically, and that's why we laughed within ourselves.
But fast forward to the evening of the same day, when he came for the tutorial and we began to share ideas and knowledge of what we'd read and reminisce about the lectures' teachings, it got to the alleged guy's time to share his, and I must confess that I and everyone in the room were wowed and amazed by each word that came out of his mouth; he literally blew us off our feet, and we must confess that I, including all my friends, misjudged him. Not long after that, he became a regular at our group reading, although that's where the friendship ends because he still moves with his bad friends.
I SAID IT!!!
Some many years ago, when I was a little younger, one of our next door neighbors brought in a housekeeper to help her family with some basic house activities and cater for their children, but ever since I set my eyes on the young lady, I just had some odd feelings about her, and that kind of made me not trust her to the point where I literally monitored all of her activities with the hope of confirming that my instinct was right.
That's seems not to age well because my monitoring was yielding fruitless results for the following five months, but what encourages me to keep on was the fact that she usually seems shocked whenever she sneaks out and turns to see my watching eyes on her; fortunate for one afternoon when everyone had already gone to work and students to school, I caught her red handed.
I was supposed to be at school but was sent back home because I was running a temperature, so she's not aware anyone was in the building. I saw a vehicle drive in, and then furniture from my neighbor's house was moved into the vehicle. I wouldn't have been bothered about it, but then I saw how they kept sneaking around and looking out to see if anyone was coming. By the time they re-entered the house to carry another item, I ran to my neighbor's shop, which was about 6 streets away from our house, to narrate the happenings to her.
She couldn't believe what she was hearing but realized that for me to run and pant like that, it must be true, so she quickly ran alongside me back home with some other sellers. Unfortunately for us, by the time we got home, they had already left the house with all the items they stole, and that was the last time they ever saw the young lady again. It was a terrible time for my neighbor, but then I just wished I had told them how I felt about the house help from the very first day they brought her.

That's about all for part two of my experience on how I judge someone based on their appearance. I hope you enjoyed the read; it was inspired by the HIVE community features prompt. Read Kronia's post to get more information.
