It was just like every other morning at the market Square of Odo Eku Village today, until the King and Queen of the Village decided to pay a surprise to the market Square, we were all thrilled by the surprise visit and stand in awe at the present.
The visit was unexpected because most times when they needed goods for the market, it's the Palace staffs that usually help them with their shoppings, and whenever they were to have a public outing, there use to be a prior notice/announcement which always draw the attention of villages and residents to come out and pay homage to them.
I'm not an indigen of the village, but that's where the school I teach is located, and since the school are having a mind term break, I decided to purchase some stuff at the village market Square, and was fortunate to behold the King and Queen in all their Glamour.
Immediately they arrived everyone greeted them in the traditional Yoruba way of greeting Kings(that's men prostrated, while the women go down on both knees).
After the former greeting, the King made an announcement that he'll be paying for all the goods the market sellers brought to the market, and that those of us who came to buy goods Should share all the goods among ourselves.
It's was a goodnews, as everyone at the market Square were jubilating and chanting long life the king in Yoruba language: "ki ade o pe Lori, ki bata o pe lese", and so on....
After making sure the item was shared equally without any rift, he paid the traders and they left back for the palace.
Other villages heard about the goodnews and ran to the market with the hope of getting their share of the lot, but they were too late, and I overheard some women wishing they were at the market at that point in time.
What I got we'll be of great help in this time when things as become expensive, but I decided to give them out to the women who came late, it's not that I'm rich but I've enough and also have multiple streams of income unlike most of this villagers.
Before going back home, I remove some bell pepper, tomatoes and potatoes from the item I gave out, since that was the main reason I came to the market in the first place.
It's was a great time at the market Square, and I'll love to appreciate @dswigle for creating such an amazing Community #Marketfriday that as given us the privilege to share our market experience and also learn about other people's culture and tradition as relating to market.
Greetings from @vickoly
