One of the noblest profession any nation can boast about is that of a military personnel, they're the true hero and the countries knight in shining armour that see to the protection and safety of the country territory and her citizens, they literally put their lives at steak just to defend the honour of their beloved country.
I'm a big admirer of military officers in various capacities, be it paramilitary or the military officers itself, and one of the major reason why I so much love this profession is the act of selflessness they all exhibit, putting their lives at steak, leaving their family and love one's behind and embark on a journey whose possibility of returning back alife isn't certain.
I mean it can only come from a brave and selfless man, there's hardly anyone who knows war lies ahead and yet proceed to that exact point, with the aim of curbing such conflict before it invade their country, In other word these guys basically fight to attain peace for their nation in a violent manner that could might be at the expense of their lives, in a nutshell, they are saddled with the responsibility of keeping the nation at peace, both internally and externally
But aside the risk factor that follows the military like a plague, it as enormous good aspect like honour and respect, the military personnel uniform alone draws them respect from the general public, not really because people are afraid of them, but mostly more of referencing and appreciation for the sacrificial life dedicated to installing peace into the nation.

So with those in mind, I'll love to share my opinion as I answer the following questions based on my view and opinion.
-
Paramilitary or Military?: They're both doing an excellent job and their job is almost similar, because it's all centered around safety and protection, but personally I love and would love to be in the military ahead of a paramilitary forces.
-
Which will you join?: In as much as I love the navy and once almost joined them, I didn't follow my dream because I'm Thalassophobia, meaning the fear of a large body of water, but I love the Army(Soldier) and I admire almost everything about them, though I don't think I can stand killing of other human, but I guess the mindset of overcome or be overcame will lead me through.
-
What if you add to it?: I don't really have much to say about this, because they seem perfect, but if I put my country Army character as a case study, then I'll, work on the part where military personnel abuse the power given to them, by dehumanising the citizens they ought to protect, this is very common down here, and if I had the opportunity to correct something in the military, it'll be the abuse of power and extortion.
