So early this week I visited OJA OBA(King market), which is one of the biggest market in ilorin Kwara state, with the hope of getting a befitting gift for my bestfriend whose wedding comes up tomorrow.
Before leaving for the market I already plan on getting her some kitchen utensils and Fan to help her comfortability during this harsh and warm weather, that make it easier for me to navigate my path through the market without beating around the bush.
One getting to the Kitchen utensils store, I discovered most item price as increased beyond my budget, for example while pricing the Pot, I was told 5set of pot is worth N19,000 that's $46 and 3set of fry pan is worth N6,500 that's $15.8, but after minutes of negotiation, I was able to buy the pot and fry pan at N12,000 that's 29$ and N4000 that's $9.7 respectively.
Before leaving the Kitchen utensils store, I also purchased 10 pieces of wrapping paper and a sellotape at N1000 that's $2.4.
Then I proceed to the Electronic appliances store, where I discover the hike in price is general, the fan I intend on buying was said to be N12,00 that's $29 but after negotiation I was able to get it at N9,500 that's $23.
You might be wondering why the huge difference between the stated price and how much I later got it!!! Well no need to worry much, Goods seller in Nigeria are know for hiking price of goods to x2 or x3 of the actual price of the goods, with the hope of getting victim who'll pay them more, so going to market down here, you must be equip with negotiation skills else you'll pay more than you ought to.
On getting home, my cousin's help me with the wrapping of the gift. But you might be wondering who's this person I'm gifting out all this gift to and why is she worth it!!!, well we've known each other since like forever, we grew up together, attended the same primary school, University and Studied the same course.
She's a wonderful friends who's open minded, cool to be with and a cheerful giver, I tag her Deborah the lady with the heart of Gold
