It was a wonderful day filled with so much joy and merry at the village I once worked as s volunteer teacher, which is situated at Isin LGA of Kwara state, as the community is being gifted fund to purchase a tractor to aid the works of farmers in the community, since most of the residents of these rural community are into farming as a source of livelihood.
The news about the purchase of the tractor threw the community into a celebration mood, because it as been long expected since the last time a government officials visited the community, and ask they the community state some of their most important needs that should be met by them, the community members asked for tractor to be brought for the community, so that each farmers can easily fuel it and use it to cultivate there farmland, which will go a long way in reducing the stress they'll pass through cultivating by themselves with hoes and co.
The government officials immediately made an enquiry about the amount a tractor is been sold, and gave the amount to the community leaders (kings of different villages in the community) to go purchase the tractor and maintain it as each farmers will get access to using it for their farms.
Ever since these happenings, we've waited for over two months before they finally made the purchase and brought it into the community for commissioning, but Lo and behold what we envisioned, wasn't what we saw, because they tractor they brought to the village can be liken to an old one, which was just repainted to look new.
As if that wasn't enough, he when it go to the point where the tractor was to be tested by starting it to see it's capacity, we got served with another suprise, because the tractor refuse to start no matter how much they try to start it, so they had no choice than to call on some mechanical engineer to come work on the aledge new tractor, to decipher what is wrong and make sure it works.
The mechanical engineer came and worked on the tractor for about an hour before they can finally get it to start, but even if we were doubting if the tractor was new initially, opening the engine of the tractor made us confirm that truely this tractor is a fairly used one, well it was tested and everyone grumbled, took pictures and went home without having the will to confront the king's and chiefs for buying a substandard tractor.
The only excuse could come up with is the fact that the price of tractor as skyrocket beyond what they told the government officials few months ago, so they had no choice than to purchase a fairly used one, so that villagers won't say they've looted public fund.
Well who am I to judge since I didn't know how much tractors are been sold, I just hope the tractor will be release to me anytime I needed to work on my farm without them demanding for another few before I can make use of it.
These are my experience from some weeks ago when I went to pack my luggages and stuffs that are in the village, as I work towards relocating to my new place of deployment.
Thanks for staying with me thus far, I hope it's been worth your time, thanks for checking out my blog post, have a blessed day.
