The national election is coming up soon, on the 25th of February to be precise, and almost everyone around me knows I'm not pleased with all the aspirants contesting for the post of president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and won't be voting. This has led many to call me different names, but deep within me I want to be an instrument of change in my nation, and I believe the best way I can do that is to work with the electoral bodies.
My stand on not voting for any of the candidates was triggered by my awareness of the corrupt and evil things these people have done in the past or the lies the politician has promised to convince us into voting for them, and being a man of principle and integrity, I've decided I'd rather not have to choose between the least evil one among them, which in the end will still result in having an evil leader in office.
Like I said, I got different names for my kind of choice. I can remember @hive-world and I were involved in a conversation on Discord, and it seemed so ridiculous that someone of his calibre would support a candidate who has a huge criminal suspect record, although never found guilty, but we're talking about a man who's so old that he can't stand on his own for 5 minutes, nor can he construct a meaningful statement without adding a blunder due to his health status and old age, I guess, such man ought to be at the caregiver house receiving treatment not contesting to rule on of the most populated nation in the world.
Also, the likes of @nkemakonam89 and @b0s even called me a tribalist person because I spoke about the candidate, and that made them believe I'm in support of my tribal man. It's quite ridiculous that the man they follow who is supposed to be a youth and starting a movement for us is already above 60 and defends his lies he's found of giving fake statistics to berate the ruling parties. Here is a man whose agenda for the nation is different from the stand of the party he represents. Does that alone not pose a threat in the near future, or wasn't he the same man who dine and wine with the same set of people he now abuse and only had to leave after losing the primary election in the same set of people he now
The last candidate is even nothing to write home about; he's a well-known thief, but due to the immunity he has to not be tried because he once served as the vice president, that has made him think we forgot his evil act. It's quite shameful and ridiculous that someone with such a past record is still bold enough to come and contest, and yet many still support him; is that the kind of person I'll vote for?, well at least I've no friends supporting him.
Are these the evil set of people that these guys are condemning me for deciding not to vote for? It's strange how society has so much clouded our minds to the point where we've been left with no choice but to choose the one with the least corrupted past among a set of corrupt people that want to rule us. I refuse to follow the multitude, but I'll still make a difference and be an instrument of change for my nation.
To make this possible, I've decided to work with the electoral bodies known simply as INEC in order to conduct free and fair elections. I know the same set of people will still win, but my aim in joining is to curb the possibility of them rigging the election or bribing my fellow INEC staff to manipulate election results. That way, I know that at least the people's choice we come out as the winner in any polling unit I work.
And that way I've played my part in nation building, thanks so much for reading, have a blessed day ahead.
