The gubernatorial election just concluded a few days ago, and just like the first election, which was the presidential election, this time again I also worked with the electoral bodies. Two of my major aims in joining were to ensure there would be free and fair elections wherever I worked and to serve as another stream of income to meet my needs.
The first election done last month taught me a lot of lessons, from the stress to how ADOC staff weren't well taken care of, to mention but a few. So this time around, I went much more prepared with a mindset set to experience the worst, but fortunately, the management was much more ok and well structured than the first. although it still has some lapses.
On arriving at the polling unit, I addressed everyone, including the party agent, in order to educate them on the DOS and DONT they should be aware of prior to the election. I also educated the voters on the basic guidelines of the voting process, and this went on to make the work seamless.
This time around, two elections were held simultaneously, including the governorship election and the house of representatives election, and there wasn't much to do at my polling unit because many voters failed to come out, although the population was a little bit higher than what we had during the presidential election. Below is the picture of the governorship and house of representatives election results at my polling unit, where I worked as the presiding officer.
The election was meant to be concluded by 2:30 p.m. if no one was available to vote, and since we only had 40 voters among a possible 261 that were registered to vote at the polling unit, we waited until the exact time before concluding the election, collating the results, and giving each party agent present a copy of the results, which they also attested their signature to to confirm their agreement with the results and how the election was conducted.
The above picture is a photo of me during the presidential election. Both were stressful tasks to engage in, and it's also dangerous, especially for those who worked in places where fights occurred between different party agents or voters with different choices of candidates. Well, now the election is over, and it's my prayer that those appointed into the various offices will make the nation great again and that it'll favor me and my loved ones.
