Self discipline is one of the major character management we should all adopt in all we do, not just to become a better person, but the best version of ourselve, and an upright man whose character is worthy of emulation for others in the society.
Self discipline can also be refer to as self control, and it is the ability to tame and control our emotions, feelings, anger and reactions to both pleasant and unpleasant experiences.

MY EXPERIENCE
Several years back during my undergraduate days, there was a day I went for a church program (vigil to be precise) in another town, so the church provided a bus to convey us to and fro the location were the program would be held, and I could remember arriving late to the pick up point, so I had to stand all through our journey to the town were the program was to be held.
So while we were going, I notice a lady was starring at me throughout the journey, at first I greeted her, when I noticed she was starring at me, with the mindset that, she was probably thinking I'm rude for not greeting her, but after the exchange of pleasantry, and she was still staring at me, and whenever our eyes click, she'll remove her eyes, another mindset that came to my mind was that maybe I didn't fix my cloth buttons well, or one part of it as torn without me noticing it.
My mind was clouded with that thought till we arrive at our destination, and I quickly rush out before another to check my dressing and cloth, but when I didn't see an error, I get that off my mind and went for the program, and after the program by 3am, I rush to the bus with the hope of getting a space to sit, unlike the way I stood all through our journey there.
So I got a space, and few minutes later, the allege lady who was starring at me, came into the bus and sat beside me, I greeted her ones again, the bus got filled up and we began our journey back home in that early hour of the day, so I decided to use the driving duration to take a nap before we get back to our destination.
While sleeping, I woke when I felt someone's hand creeping around my body, I remove her hand and ask, why she'll do such, she started blabbing about how she love me and have a feeling for me, I told her she would have tell me directly instead of harassing me in public, then she said everywhere is dark and that no one will notice, that I should please touch her.
It was a very terrible encounter that very day, she kept on caressing my body, and I of course i had the sensation, but I know that's very wrong, at first I thought it was due to the cold weather she was behaving like that, so I try to stand and left the sit for her alone, but she refuses, until I had to lie loudly to the bus driver that I need to urinate, that was when she allow me leave.
After going down to urinate, I didn't bother going back to the sit, and when we got to our destination, the lady kept following me, insisting she must follow me home, I don't want to embarrass her, so I didn't report her to our youth leader, so I start walking the remaining part of the journey home alongside some of my friends who start around my hostel, but when we almost get to my place in that hour of the night and she refuse to her way, I told one of my friend that I'll love to sleep in his place, that my place as some issues, she was disappointed with that word, but one of our other friend who noticed how she behaves and felt it's an opportunity for him to have free sex, took her to his place.
After about 3 month, this lady became pregnant, and it was that friend who took her home that very day who was responsible for the pregnancy, that's how two undergraduate who are dependent on their parents for all their needs ended up becoming parent, and due to the fact that they wanted to keep the news from their parents, they both drop out of school and use the money being sent to them by their parents to sustain their family, until the family later became aware, by then it was to late to return to school and that's how their educational journey come to an end due to a well minutes of enjoyment and pleasing of their sexual lust.
After that, the I've come across the lady on several occasions, and there's no time she as ever been bold to look me in the eyes again, mostly because I felt, she is embarrassed about her actions towards me then, and the fact that, what happened that night was what transpire to her loosing her desired future to becoming a mother in such an early age.
While on the part of the guy, like we all know, guys joke with almost everything, although at first I became reserved after the lady Became pregnant, but after few month, he literally joke about, how I narrowly escape the missile aimed at me, and how I felt victim due to not having self control like I do.

The above is one of the scenarios of my life where I exhibit self control/discipline, and I believe you'll all agree with me that, if I had no self control in such situation, my life would have been damned just like theirs, and that would have been how my education and aspirations for the future be brought to an unexpected but avoidable halts.
From that event, I learn;

Not to let my let my emotions control my action, without thoroughly vetting how I'll fell in the next minute after giving in to such emotion, and the repercussion what will follow if I embark on such.

Not to because something is offered to me for free, then jump on, without thinking.

To not be distracted in my long life goal due few minutes of pleasure.
