Gender discrimination is probably one of the top issues the world is facing presently, and it's no longer news how these have affected the world at large. This leads to inequality, depression, and an inability to give the right judgment, which leads to people not getting what they rightfully deserve. This is something I've been a victim of, and I can tell you without a doubt that it's not good at all to be genderless stereotype or anything related to that.
Gender discrimination is quite common in the world today, and a lot of people are affected by it. We've come to realize that most laws, religions, cultural values, and several others favor women the most. I've come to realize that men are the ones expected to do the tedious tasks. Also, when it comes to relationships or marriages, if they break or things go south between both parties, men are expected to pay child support, emotional damage, and several other things. This, I believe, shouldn't be so, but unfortunately, society and culture have made this morally right and the standard by which we should live, even though it's killing the other gender gradually.
I hope you did not get me wrong. I am certain women also go through discrimination, such as in society, the right to attain some heights, freedom of expression or contest for a position, sexually related discrimination, and several others to mention but a few, but still, despite all of this, I still believe men are the ones who faced these discrimination issues the most, but regardless of the gender to elaborate on my points, I would like to share my story, and I hope this will serve as a lesson to many, and hopefully we will stand together as a people to curb this in our society.
The first gender discrimination issue I'll be sharing happened when I was much younger. I grew up with relatives, and alongside me I had a female cousin with whom we lived together as the young children of the house, but despite the fact that we were both young and of the same age, I realized I was being given most of the house chores to do, while the girl was left with little or nothing to do. To side with that, they would tell me I am a boy who's much stronger and she's fragile, and should be treated with care.
This usually pissed me off because I felt I was also fragile and should be treated with care. I still can't stand how a child of the same age is expected to do the cleaning, sweeping, and washing while another just stands around because she's a girl. I couldn't complain because each time I tried to do that, I got scolded or didn't get the right judgment, but I knew it was wrong and the duty should have been shared equally. I did not know the right word to call it then, but now I believe gender discrimination fits it perfectly.
Another example of gender discrimination issues I experienced was when I was seeking employment at a firm. I and a lady were the two people who put in for the job, and despite the fact that I was more qualified than the lady because I had a bachelor's degree, the required qualification, while she only had NCE, when the person in charge wanted to pick between us, you gave her the open slots we were competing for, that is, the accounting officer, while he gave me, as compensation for being qualified but being unfortunate to be competing with a lady, the post of a storekeeper.
I was very disappointed with the turnout of those events; in fact, I didn't later resume for the compensated position I was given. I knew I was qualified and also did exceedingly well compared to the lady that was employed despite having a qualification that wasn't up to the minimum requirement. I can remember wishing I was a lady, and hopefully that'll make me get a job since I can easily dress attractively to confuse the critical thinking of the interviewer.
One of the lessons I learned from these experiences is that the world isn't fair; there'll always be discrimination in the gender aspect as long as certain laws are still in place. I also learned that it's better to step up one's business than seek employment in some places because when you compete with the opposite sex, many employees employ because of the sexual benefits they'll get in return, or because she's a lady who should be employed, while the man is still left hanging because he has enough strength to hustle.
How to eradicate gender discrimination
-
Purge your mindset: One of the ways we can curb gender discrimination is by purging our mindset individually. A lot of people have built the mindset that one gender is fragile, strong, only sexually appealing, and several others that are affected by gender, and in order to bring gender discrimination to an end, we must purge our mindset, have a rethink, and treat everyone equally without letting one thing or another influence our decision.
-
Eradicate some laws and norms: There are some laws I believe are one-sided and should be eradicated because they promote gender discrimination. For instance, asking a man to pay a support fee or slashing his earnings into two and giving part to their divorce partner is one I think is faulty. While it might mean the man is losing and the lady is winning, I think it also portrays that ladies are specially treated. Because had the lady been the richest of both parties, she wouldn't have been encouraged to split her wealth by that court.
-
Promote equality in all aspects: In order to eradicate gender discrimination, there is a need to promote equality in our society. in politics, employment, health care, freedom of expression, and several others, to mention but a few, because when there is equality, there will be fewer chances of facing discrimination, or a situation where someone is given an opportunity because of their sex, instead there will be equal benefits given to all. This will bring about unity and harmony in our society.

That is about all of my opinion on gender discrimination, and like you can see in the write-up, it also cuts across what I learned from these experiences and some of the things I felt should be put in place to curb gender discrimination. I hope you find this helpful, and we will all join hands together to make our community a safe place for everyone to live without being discriminated against.
Thanks so much for your time have a blessed and productive day.
