MY OPINION ON EUTHANASIA

It's normal to show uttermost pity for someone who is seriously in pain or seems to have no hope of recovering from such an illness or other problems, and that may lead to their relative or doctor wishing they could just help them end their misery and put an end to the pain. I've once been in a situation of such thought, but does that justify such action? Kindly read on to know my options.

From the year 2021 to mid-2022, my younger brother was seriously ill and had to undergo colostomy surgery, which wasn't successful because he was in such severe pain that the stitches used to tie the operated part of his stomach were falling out to the point where I could literally see his internal organs outside.

He had to undergo another operation to correct the mistake, and before we know it, he has gone down the knife for at least six major operations and nothing less than eight minor operations during that period. During that period, I couldn't stand his pain, and I had so much pity on him that I wished I could take his place to shoulder some of his pain. There were even days the nurse advised him to let them end his misery.

I and my other brother were once called into the nurse's office, and there we were advised to just let them end his misery given the amount of pain he's going through with several operations that keep proving abortive and the debt we are going into to foot the bill. Although I understand their perspective, my sick brother is a fighter and a believer who kept assuring us that he'd be in good condition soon and that we should be patient with the stress he's putting us through.

Alongside my other brother, we disagree with the nurses' advice and stand firm in our belief that our brother will be fine and respond to treatment pretty soon, although it took about another 3 months after that encounter before we started seeing positive signs of him responding to treatment, but it was worth the wait. Fast forward to present day, and he's now fine and in good health, now in his final year at the polytechnic after going back to continue his education. IMG_20210627_145537.jpg

So in a nutshell, my stand on euthanasia is that it shouldn't be encouraged and people should be given the opportunity to fight it out with their plight and hopefully they'll come out victorious in the end. Had we given up on our junior brother and let the nurses do as advice, he would be no more, and neither would we have known he could survive the then pain or live life to the fullest presently as if nothing ever happened to him.

I understood the doctors were only trying to help, but I believe everyone should be allowed to face the battle, and whatever comes out of it is welcome, but only in a situation where the patient themselves requested for it. Then it can be done, but if not, I see no reason why we should take anyone's life, no matter the reason.
