Childhood is one of the most exciting and memorable times of almost everyone's life because of the remarkable experiences and worry-free lifestyle we lived. It's usually filled with wonderful memories of moments we cherish and adore, and today I'd love to give you an insight into one of those moments, how much it meant to me, and why I held it dearly to my heart till this day.
I was about 6 or 7 years old at that time; I can't really place my head to the exact age, but the major thing is that the school I attended alongside my other siblings organized a competition that included both academic and extracurricular activities like sports, spelling bees, and the like, and every student was encouraged to participate with all seriousness so their house master could pick them to represent their various houses to compete for each trophy.
I and two of my brothers were fortunate to be picked to represent our various houses in the different age groups. I was to represent my age group, the red house, in the 100-meter race against students of my age group in other houses like yellow, green, and blue, and by the time the race began, I started on the right note and was lucky to come out first among my peers in the race.
It was one of the happiest moments of my life; aside from the fact that I was filled with joy and proud of myself, my house masters and other members of the red house surrounded me, a teacher carried me on his shoulder, and other students and house masters celebrated and chanted my name and sang the praises of the red house I represented.
It was such a breathtaking moment that got me standing in awe at how much love everyone had for me. One of my other siblings also won in the long jump competition, and that made it even more delightful because at the end of the event, during the awarding moment when all winners were called out to take their medals, I can see my parents beaming with pride where they sat, and I can see how they majestically walked to the podium each time a parent of the winner was asked to come forward to snap pictures with their child.
One of the reasons why I loved the moment so dearly was because of the fact that, even though we weren't rich, my dad, as a result of how proud we made him feel, took us all out to eat at a restaurant with a superb ambiance. That was the first time we went out on such an outing, and I must confess the meal was nothing short of delicious. By the following day, my dad also brought a bicycle for everyone of us (my siblings) to play with as a show of appreciation for how well we did during the interhouse sports competition.
That's about all on one of the moments I'm most fond of from my childhood days; I hope you enjoy the read. Fast forward to present day; now a teacher, I'm proud to be part of the story of some of these young kids as well, because a few months ago I also led some students in the white house where I was the game master at the school where I worked to victory during the inter-house sport competition. I'm sure they too will look back some day and be proud of these moments.
