MAKING A NEW YEAR'S FOOTWEAR PRESENT FOR MYSELF

Happy New Year, fellow needleworkers and friends! I pray all our dreams come true. For me personally, this year I'd love to be intentional with my goals and enhance the love I showed to myself and those around me. To follow that trend, I made and gifted myself these palm slippers as a new year's present.

Though in the past I usually tried as much as possible to make those around me happy and loved to meet their needs, when it comes to catering for myself, I limit or don't do any at all, so to change that notion and make myself feel special, I'm starting this year on a wonderful note with this lovely present to myself.

It is kind of funny to know that despite being a renowned shoemaker, throughout last year I didn't have a single pair of leather slippers; I only had shoes and rubber slippers, which are not befitting of wearing out. Although shoes are good, wearing them consistently won't make my feet get enough air, so that's one of the major reasons I decided to make one for myself this year.

In changing that notion, I wanted two palm slippers; at least that will be enough to exchange with the shoes, so I made and gifted one to myself on Christmas day, and on the 31st, I made another one, which will serve as my new year's present to myself.

***Without taking much of your time, let me walk through the simple steps I took in making these palm slippers, which I later gifted myself as a new year's gift. I'll also share the materials and equipment I use as well.***

THE MAKING PROCESSES

  • I cut a paper to the exact style I want for the Slippers, which I tend draft out on the cream and brown colour leather.

  • After the cutting, gum were applied to them and each was joined to their lining, after which I sew all the edges with the sewing machine.

  • When I concluded the sewing I cut my Marco for the insole, joined the brown linning to it and then, sew around it on the sewing machine too.

  • After sewing it, I cut an opening in different angles on the Insole and put my design palm upper through it.

  • Finally I cut the material for the insole, which is a Nora, and put gum on it and the Marco, I joined it and took the palm slippers to the filling machine to make the surrounding of the slippers smooth and neat.
