I'm not really a fan of politics, and neither do I like any politician, most especially in my country, Nigeria; in fact, even if I wanted to, the impact that the last election had on the people of my country would obstruct me from doing so because they literally ride their captain on the wings of religion, tribes, and region, which ended up building hate between the various segments I mentioned above.
Although the election has been won by one of the candidates who have already been sworn into office, others are still in court disagreeing with the electoral process. Well, those aside, while all that lasts, the president, though not liked by some people, has done a few things within his two weeks in office, and today I'll like to say my opinion on them.
Removal of fuel subsidy: On his inaguration, the new president removed the fuel subsidy that reduced the rate of fuel in the country. These actions are being questioned by many because everyone thinks it's a great idea, but we thought he ought to have something in place before doing that. But then it's worth noting that regardless of whether he removes it or not, the provision for subsidy in the year budget made by the previous government only sustains till the end of this month.
There are two ways to do this: either he leaves it hanging and then after one month it disappears and everyone blames him without knowing the previous governments for it, although he did remove it to come out plain, but I'm definitely not impressed because that singular act put the nation into some problems with a hike in the price of various items.
Arresting the CBN governor: The particular news pleases everyone in the country, given the fact that the governor of the central bank of Nigeria put the nation into chaos when he decided to change the nation's currency, rendering the old note useless and not printing enough copies of the old note. That was a huge problem that made citizens start buying money with money, and then when they couldn't deal with the madness anymore, people began destroying bank and government properties.
There were other charges against him, such as intentional acts of devaluation of the Maria for his personal interest to amaze wealth; other accusations include sponsoring a terrorist group; and several others.
Signing the Electricity bills act into law: This is the biggest news that excites me because the bill just signed into law by the new president is one that promises to help the country improve in terms of electricity supply. The law allows the government, stakeholder groups, private organizations, and individuals to distribute electricity in the country, which I believe will bring about competition that will make power supply more consistent and cheaper.
It's a good one, I must say, but let's see how it goes. But I'm literally excited and hope everything will work out well. Once the electricity issues are sorted out, the demand on fuel will reduce, and then we can easily grow as a nation.
That's about all from me today, I hope you enjoy the read, have a blessed day ahead.
