Since I moved to Lagos State, this has undoubtedly been one of the most thrilling experiences in my teaching career. This is because I was able to guide my team—of which I was the sports master—to victory despite numerous obstacles and a track record that suggested we wouldn't be having a good competition at all. However, in the end, our tenacious spirit, consistent practice, and determination to turn the tides around for good allowed us to win.
During our school's interhouse sports competition, I was asked to serve as the white house's house master despite being the newest and lowest-ranking instructor in our institution. Because the pupils assigned to it weren't as physically fit and weren't as interested in sports as those in other colored houses, it turned out that pretty much every other teacher was avoiding the house. Since every teacher was declining the offer, they even had to conduct a vote to determine which ones would join me in guiding the students. Ultimately, I was assigned four teachers to work alongside me in this capacity.
But out of those assigned to team up with me, only two showed up, and not too long after that our first consistent training, I was called by our school sports director, who told me the sportswear of the students has arrived, but due to one reason or another, they forgot to print a plain white jersey, so they suggest only the students in my house won't be given the sportwear. But when the students got the information, they became dejected that the sports team leader had no choice but to share the other printed colors with them, but advised that they remain in white house not withstanding which color they are given
That was a big demoralizer for my team, because most of the students deflected to the colour of cloth they were given, these include students I've trained and practice together, I had no choice than to select some other new students and began the training with them all over again, fast forward to the first day of the competition, in the open ground that was to be used for the sport, my house were the once having the least members when compared to other houses.

The first game we took part in was the boys category of lawn tennis, which went poorly for us because the boy who represented us clearly lacked confidence. Despite my best efforts to boost his confidence, nothing changed, and in the end we finished last. However, in the girls category, we finished third and were awarded a bronze medal for the girls lawn tennis.

After that, we moved on to the table tennis boys category, where our representative also finished third and won a bronze medal, which was for the first category, while we also won another bronze medal in the table tennis girls category to finish the first day of the interhouse sports with just having only 3 bronze medals. It wasn't exactly a promising start, but we were at least better than the team that had no medal at all.

By the time the competition started, we went on to win the gold medal in the boys' sack race and the girls' sack race as well, both of which were decided by first place finishes. https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/vickoly/Epzz6i2AMC4B2Ghv7DrYMBiYkxJUCrtRLoJZ9WUT6xDx1zeua44TReMzESmeMAtZbQP.jpg
Moving to the 100-meter race, our boys' team didn't win any medals as he came out fourth, but our girls' representative won the silver medal after finishing in second place in the race.
While our girls do horrific in the spoon and lime race for reasons outside of her control, I believe we were cheated against in the boys category because the boy in the green house ahead of my boy picked up the lime with his hand, which was against the rule agreed upon. However, since they did not pay attention to my complaint, I decided to overlook it, and we were ultimately given the second place to receive another silver medal.
That's brings an end to the interhouse sports competition but the difference houses, and while the sport leadership team while trying to determine the winners and the rank of each houses, the school principal and her vice step on the table tennis to have some fun as the students cheer them on.
Here I took some pictures of the trophy for the first second and third and the prizes that will be given to the students that won any of the medal's 🏅
Before the winners were announced, each student that won a medal from third to first were called out one after the other and were given a prize of 5 exercise books each. https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/vickoly/EoK8fNLesEwWSchbxjDBdac1WkzpZp61K5VsU6eKN4yARpFtFE4fN76dS1RHHGyCBhc.jpg

By the time winner were to be announced, green out edge us out with one more gold medal to claim the first spot, but we filled closely to finish second and we went to the podium to collect our trophy's before moving around the school to celebrate our win alongside the students.
We getting a trophy literally makes both the teachers and students that fail to join us initially ran to to us to celebrate alongside us and the whole scenario was just a lesson on its own and the reasons why we shouldn't give up, not let the judges of others base on our previous stegima get over us. https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/vickoly/243WaKVGtbvHK9h96X62xg59UFoxs1fPK3ZX2mCck6D7NB946iDhRM5WTDgovcY9ciQ1e.jpg
Because, from someone who had only 3 bronze Medal 🏅 on the first day of the competition, now ended up having 2 gold, 2 silver and in total alongside the bronze that takes us to a total of 7 medals.
Below are some pictures of we the white house students and teacher's celebrating our win and as well taking a pictures with the trophy.
These are pictures of some of the students that represented us in various sports and their prizes alongside the trophy.

These was a huge lesson I learnt, aside the part of never given up until it's over, I also learnt that we should never write off ourselves even though all circumstances seems to show that we'll fail.
I am happy to know that I was the first house master that will win a medal 🏅 for the white house, because they are well knows as the house who usually that the last spot, but in my first attempt we not only won a medal but went on to be the overall second place for this year interhouse sports.
Thanks so much for checking out my blog post, have a blessed day.
