Going back on our word after promising to do something isn't healthy for any relationship, and regardless of our excuses, such happenings could lead to a situation where trust diminishes in such relationships, and if care isn't taken, such could destroy such friendships and much more. Although I'm the type who loves to keep to my word, unfortunately there comes a time when I have to go back on my word, and today I'll love to tell you all about it.

Before diving into my experience on this broken promise issue, it's worthy of note that I've had limited situations when I promised and not fulfilled my words, because I hate to promise and fail, and due to that, I tend to not want to promise anyone, so I won't fall into a situation where I won't be able to fulfill it. So after critical thinking and having just two experiences that came to mind, I decided to resolve to talk about this experience, even though I'm not too comfortable about it.
So without further ado, let's dive into how I broke a promise to someone, my reasons for doing that, and the advent of my behavior in our relationship. So to the first question on the focal point, which asked if I've ever broken a promise, my answer to that is yes, and below is the reason why.
A few years ago, I was in a relationship with my ex, and we were already planning on getting married. Both of our parents had met each other during a discussion about the planned union and deciding a date for that to play out, and trust me, I do love and cherish this lady and couldn't even wait to be joined in holy matrimony with her, who also happens to be my first love. But unfortunately for us, things went south between us due to a particular occurrence, and that made me go back on my word and break my promise of marriage to her.
Well, it happened that a few months before our supposed union, I paid her a surprise visit, and instead of me surprising her, I was the one who was welcomed with a surprising sight. When I arrived at her place, I met her in a compromising situation with someone else, and I couldn't stand the sight, nor could I find a place in my heart to forgive her given the fact that I loved, trusted, and never cheated on her prior to then, so I walked away dejected and annoyed. With what I witnessed, I had to cut ties between us and end the relationship, because if such were to happen a few months into a wedding ceremony, then there's no assurance that such a home would experience loads of infidelity going on on a regular basis, and with what happened and my reaction to it, that literally ended the relationship and any plans we were having. Although she and her family tried to reach out to me, I was too hurt to listen, so that was how our relationship ended.
Like I said, that occurrence broke our relationship, and neither did I wait to have anything to do with her. I guess we went about 2 years without talking until we started chatting once in a while on social media. I won't say we're close again, but we do chat once in awhile, and there's definitely not going to be any close interaction beyond those occasional conversations.
That's all about how I broke a promise. It's saddening that that happened, but I had no choice other than that. Thanks for reading through. The write-up was inspired by the Hive Learners community features prompt. Ā Thanks for your time. Have a wonderful night's rest.
