I BEAT HIM TO A PULP JUST BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO APOLOGIZE

Apologizing or saying sorry is not a sign of weakness or vulnerability but a sign of a peacemaker; it's an attribute of a lover of peace and someone who isn't too shy to admit their fault, offer apologies, and let peace reign between whoever they've wronged or offended in one way or another. Saying sorry doesn't assure the absence of a rift, but it reduces its likelihood of escalating.

Although while growing up, I was the type that doesn't say much and loves to be by myself. I guess not being a lover of many words also led to me not fancying the word "sorry," so most times when I'm wrong, I don't apologize, and even when someone apologizes to me, I don't take their words seriously because I believe within me that they don't really mean it.

Although with time I changed after learning my lessons from various experiences while growing up, today I'd love to share one of such scenarios with y'all. I hope you'll enjoy the read.

***So going into details, in the article you'll get to read about one of the many situations in which I refuse to say sorry after offending someone, what transpired, how it ended, and what I deduced from this occurrence. Have a great read.***

Few months after completing my secondary school leaving examination, I left the shore of my guidance to now reside with my parents and siblings. Not long after my arrival, my parents realized I had no respect for my elder brother or any older person that wasn't too much older than me, which led to countless punishments but that didn't make me change until one fateful day.

It happened that I and my elder brother went out for a particular event, and during our stay there I kept calling him by his name without including the traditional brother mi term used by most Yoruba people. I guess that really annoys him given that most of his friends were there, and most of them even make mockery of him for not being able to discipline me or talk sense into my head to respect my elders, including them.

He tried as much as possible to get me to change, but all efforts proved abortive. Then, when we got back home, he reported me to our parents, who weren't pleased either; they insisted I apologize and show him some respect, but I refused; he angrily went in and so do i,  but one way or another, we met again inside the house, and he angrily slapped me.

The slap got me angry and that led to a fight between us. Not long into the fight, I carried him and smashed him on the floor, which led to a loud cry by him, and before I realized he had broken his arms, he was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. At that very moment, I felt ashamed of myself and wished I had just offered my apologies and done the needful rather than injuring him and also leading my parents to spend on his treatment.

Although I was punished for what I did, that wasn't the reason I had a rethink or started admitting my wrong. The pain I caused him that evening and all that could have been avoided if I did lead to my change of heart and when I went to visit him on the hospital bed, I apologized and let him know I'm truly sorry, and that's how the misunderstanding ended between us.

That's about all on my experience of not saying sorry and what it led into; I hope you learned a lesson from my situation and apologized when you were wrong subsequently. The write-up was inspired by the HIVE learners community prompt; read the article by Kronias to get more information.
