Few weeks ago i was privileged to anchor the UNITED STATE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE(USDA) WEST AFRICA PRO CASHEW PROJECT at ODO EKU village, located at the outskirt of ISIN LGA, KWARA STATE NIGERIA, and the meeting was aimed at educating the farmers on the best pro harvest and post harvest practices.
I enlighten the farmers on the modern strategy of getting the best out of their cashews farming business and also explain the few of the plans of the USDA WEST AFRICA PRO CASHEW TEAM plans to help the hardworking cashews farmer with modern equipment and grant which will empower them have the financial capability to hire labourers help during harvest and other subsequent levels of marketing.
Other part of our discussion and enlightenment is on how to empower the capability of the producer to rehabilitate and renovate the cashew farm so as to improve development, improve quality and productivity so as to set WEST AFRICA on the international stage as a competitive raw cashews nut producer.
After answering some of the questions of the cashew farmers, I was ask help to settle a dispute between the farmers and the cattle rearers. The dispute between Farmers and the cattle rearers is something that plays out in almost every part of the country. So I was not surprised when the committee of villages state that they are tired of how the cattle rearers usually direct their cattles into their farms thereby destroy the farm products.
As the the cattle rearers were also in attendance, I try to make them understand the effect of their act on the farmers(these I did without trying to be sentimental cause I'm a farmer). And they promise to fish out whoever does such again, since the village committee of elders vow to chase them out of their town if such action continue. These are my ordeals in the town.
Thanks for checking out my post
