It's such a privilege to be in 2023, and just like a flash, the first day of the year passes by, leaving us with a couple of days before the year ends lols. Well, as it's a common tradition in my country, the new year's day is always filled with lots of celebration, food, drinks, you name it; although mine wasn't elaborate, still I enjoyed it.
Year day in Nigeria is always a busy one from the first hour. Most especially in the vicinity where I grew up, we can hardly tell the difference between night and day during the new year if not for the difference in cloud cover, and that's so because the street is mostly filled with people, many sounds of knockouts, and people joyful for being privileged to step into a new year.

HOW MY 1ST DAY OF 2023 PLAYS OUT
The first hour and a half of every new year usually meets me in the church, because we always have a program that ushers us into the new year. But unlike what I'm used to in Lagos, where I grew up, I celebrate this with my family in Kwara state, and since the church program won't begin until 11 p.m., an hour prior to the new year, I was worried about how I'll walk through the countless noises and danger of knockout(banger) being thrown during that hour.
But unlike my fear and anticipating, the street was so empty and as silent as a graveyard when I was on my way to church. I kind of miss those bobblings of my childhood days, but then I went to church and prayed into the new year, after which I walked back home in the same manner around past 1am, but this time around there were few people on the street, probably also returning from church like me.
On getting home, I couldn't go to my room to sleep because others are yet to return from church; they attended a different church from me and didn't come back until 3am. I was watching a TV series on DStv till they came, and when they did, I switched it off and went to sleep. I woke up in the morning, thanked my maker, and began another preparation for church.
There was a lot of dancing and thanksgiving in church, and after the service I returned home to have some good time with my family. I was served a plate of pounded yam and vegetable soup, but I rejected it because I had the mindset of fasting today, so I played football with my siblings on the PlayStation for several hours.
As usual, I won all the matches we played, but during the game play, there was a lot of eating and re-eating among everyone in the house to the point where I had no choice but to break my fast around 4 p.m. due to how they made me salivate, and eating those massive meat lollipops, I ordered my own share and devoured it in a few minutes.
After that, I purchased soft drinks for everyone in the house, and I also helped myself to a bottle of my favorite drink, Pepsi. After the meal, we played more games, had some family prayers, and had some discussions. That was when I resumed being online and came to celebrate with friends on Hive and in Neoxian City.
There were a lot of activities going on in the city. As we all know, the city is always an engrossing place to be, and Xawi happened to be celebrating her birthday. There were a lot of giveaways, but unfortunately I couldn't win any. By 9 p.m., a game inspired by Hamza began, and it was fun.
I'm sure everyone who participated in the game had fun, just like me, but aside from the fun, I also learned some lessons from people's responses to the various questions, their shared live experiences, and their new year's resolutions.
That's basically how the day went; aside from going to church, I was home, and after that game, I wrote my first post of the year on Hive, as well as eating dinner, which consisted of rice and chicken with a can of Fanta.

That basically sums up my experience for the first day of the year. There weren't any outgoing people, but I enjoyed myself throughout. I was inspired to write this because of the HIVE learners prompt, you can check their well detailed explanation on the topic via @kronias post.
