A WORLD WHERE INJUSTICE TRUIMP OVER JUSTICE

We, as humans, have various rules and regulations that guide our behaviors and the like. Just within those regulations are a few components of basic and general human rights that grant us the privilege to do some things because according to the law we can, but not withstanding those rights, we've seen how many have been unjustly dealt with despite the fact that it goes against the fundamental human rights, and today I'll share an experience of such with y'all in this article.

Regardless of the situation, I believe everyone should be entitled to exhibit their rights in every way possible without being overridden or trampled on by others because they deem the victim to be too small, weak, or less recognized to challenge them. I've witnessed several occasions when people or someone was unfairly dealt with despite being within their rights.

So years ago during my undergraduate days, we were about to begin our examination and a few weeks prior to the examination date, a notice was released that our school fees had been increased by a staggering 40%. It looked odd and unpalatable given the fact that what we were paying initially was above 100 thousand naira, so most of the students agreed to protest in order to get the school fees back to normal or else no one would go in for the exam.

On the day of the protest, which was also supposed to be the day we'd begin our examination, I told my roommate not to go to school, although we both have examinations. I wasn't feeling too good about the whole plan the students had and was even sensing that something terrible might happen, and lo and behold, just as I was feeling uneasy about it, the worst broke out.

During the protest, the school unofficially called some policemen to come curb the students' activities, and during the disagreement, a police officer got angry and shot towards the students. Low and behold, the students hit one of the students, and that's how everyone, including the police, ran away given the occurrence. Luckily, some of the students' union officials rushed the affected students to the hospital for treatment.

During the student's recovery at the hospital, the institution provost visited him, and I guess he collided and bribed the students to give a false account of what happened, which led to the alleged student that was shot by the police testifying in court that he doesn't know if it was students or police that shot him because both were holding guns. That was false because no student was holding a gun, and the protest was meant to be a peaceful one.

The student union president was accused of being the shooter because he led the police, and given the fact that there wasn't enough evidence, I guess the school authorities bribed the court official as well, because the guy was expelled from school and then sentenced to jail for an offense he knows nothing about. It was a very tough situation because it was the same school that sends the circular of increases on their website and even refuses to talk to those who want to pay a gradually increasing fee.

We the other students tried to still protest for how the school tried to cover up evidence of the school fee issue by getting someone else sent to prison who they knew nothing about. In the long run, the school authorities still pay touts to pretend as if they're students protesting to enter the school and destroy some properties, and that was how we protesting couldn't continue because after the incident, every student was asked to pay 20,000 naira for damages and sign an affidavit from the court saying that we will never protest again and if we do the school as the right to do expel us or do whatever pleased them.

It was a very disheartening scenario to see the student union president sentenced to prison and them ruining his image like that, and for us too, it isn't a pleasant experience knowing we're paying damages for something the school authorities themselves pay hoodlums to destroy in disguise as students. These are some of the ways evil filled the society, and it is so saddening to see it happen in such a small segment of the nation.
